Flight hours and C-130 aircraft decrease requests are made to Congress.
The U.S. Air Force is proposing a cut of 87,500 hours of flight time for its pilots and reduce its C-130 fleet by 45 aircraft to meet budget constraints.
Lt. General David Nahom told a Senate Armed Services Airland Subcommittee that 92 older models in the C-130 fleet would be updated and the remainder are either already newer models or already on order from Lockheed Martin.
Regarding the flight hours, General Nahom said that the demands of weapon system sustainment “is actually approaching $1 billion a year, just in increased costs. And this year, in [fiscal] ’22, we were not able to fund that increase.” He added that the average age of military aircraft, which is 28 years, and contractor logistics support are motivating the request.
